Fancy a cycling holiday in Burgundy? Le Chalonnais invites you to enjoy a unique experience on the Grand Tour du Chalonnais. The Tour du Chalonnais by bike is a loop of around 200 km, designed for touring over several days. Accessible to both regular cyclists and cycling enthusiasts, the route alternates between green lanes, little-travelled secondary roads and vineyard paths. The route combines greenways (44%) and minor roads (56%).
The Verdun-Ciel to Beaune stage (27 km) is a highlight of the route, where the Saône and Doubs rivers meet, creating a picture-postcard landscape. With bridges, quays and the confluence of the two rivers, the scenery is a natural invitation to take a break.
The route continues to Beaune, the capital of Burgundy wines. It's impossible to miss the Hospices de Beaune, a jewel of Burgundy's heritage with its famous colourful glazed roofs. Then stroll through the historic centre, surrounded by ramparts, where cobbled streets, town houses and lively little squares invite you to take a stroll. The route then continues towards Chagny, gateway to the Canal du Centre. With its vineyards, waterways and peaceful atmosphere, this small Burgundy town makes a pleasant stop-off for cyclists. Its marina, terraces and green surroundings provide a gentle transition between the Côte-d'Or and southern Burgundy.
