Château Pontus de Tyard

This fortified castle has six round or square towers (including one known as "La Panneterie" dating from around 1300) plus a dovecote in an adjoining garden. The inner courtyard is enclosed by walls. The farm buildings within the enclosure date from the 17th to 19th centuries.
The interior of the dwelling comprises 4 large bedrooms with fireplaces and study rooms, a small chapel and a dovecote. The estate as a whole comprises a "garenne" (boxwood and oak woodland), a conservatory orchard of 16th-century fruit varieties, a conservatory vineyard of 50 old grape varieties likely to have been present in the 16th century, a conservatory of 80 Chardonnay varieties and a poetic garden.
The château is open to the public from June to September. Guided tours for groups (minimum 8 people) are available by prior arrangement.
