Bissey-sous-Cruchaud

In the north of the Community of Communes of the South Côte Chalonnaise, Bissey-sous-Cruchaud, crossed by the Route des Grands Vins and bordered by the Voie Verte to the east, is a wine-producing village offering a pretty patchwork of colourful and varied plots.

The village, on a site certainly already occupied by the Gallo-Romans, saw the birth of one of the first cooperative wine cellars in Burgundy in 1928. The church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, partly Romanesque, has suffered (its walls bear witness to this) but presents astonishing treasures with a sculpted altarpiece and gilded wooden statues from the 17th and 18th centuries. In the village, don't miss the house of Emiland Gauthey, the architect who built the Canal du Centre, many bridges, the church of Givry and the theatre of Chalon-sur-Saône. Cadoles in the vineyards and the Cloux fountain are also to be seen along the way.
